Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis may have a variety of causes, such as an infection by various types of germs or smoke irritation. A diet lacking in vitamins A and B predisposes to dryness of the conjunctiva and fosters or aggravates conjunctivitis.

Recommended foods and nutrients:

  • Apricot – This fruit provides provitamin A and B group vitamins, which help maintain the delicate conjunctive membrane of the eye in healthy condition.
    • Best results are obtained by following an apricot treatment regimen: This is carried out over the course of 15 days by eating ½ kilo (1 pound) of ripe apricots a day, preferably as the only dish at supper. They may be eaten with toasted bread. It is important that they be eaten only when ripe. Organically grown are best since chemical products penentrate the skin and are difficult to remove even by washing. Side benefit of this treatment: The iron content and other substances in apricots make this an outstanding treatment for anemia, according to Dr. Jean Valnet, and Leclerc, who said this therapy gave results similar to using beef liver to treat anemia due to blood loss.
  • Vitamin A – Lack of this vitamin dries the conjunctiva, which in severe cases causes the disease called xerophthalmia.
  • Vitamins B – These vitamins improve the condition of the mucuous membrane of the conjunctiva.
For general eye health:
  • Spinach, and especially broccoli are god sources of carotenoids (vegetable pigments) such as lutein and zeaxanthin which the eyes need
  • Vitamin C & E - Antioxidants found almost exclusively in fruits, vegetables, nuts and grain germ. Their lack leads to cataracts and vision loss.
    • Vitamin C sources – Acerola, guava, currant and kiwi are good sources
    • Vitamin E sources – Wheat germ and coin oils are best sources

A HiveWiki enables web pages to be written collectively in a simple markup language using a web browser. A single page in a HiveWiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via hyperlinks, is "the wiki"; in effect, a HiveWiki is actually a very simple, easy-to-use user-maintained database for searching or even creating information.
